The strategic benefits of applying an effective data strategy are:

1. Capitalising on data assets - their use, value and opportunities

2. Supporting the business and IT strategies to deliver desired outcomes and objectives

3. Gaining overall control and assurance of data as part of effective corporate governance in terms of quality, compliance, security, resilience, data protection, valuation and analytics.

What is a Data Strategy?

Data is an organisation’s critical asset.  Without data no organisation can function – it can’t deliver its services and products to customers, it can’t buy goods from its suppliers, it can’t manage its finances and it can’t support and manage its team.

As data-led organisations are increasingly seen as leading the way and the data-driven economy gets into its stride, organisations are realising that they need to ensure data is managed strategically like all other parts of its business.   This requires putting in place a strategic data governance framework for managing all aspects of data and governance, and appointing senior owners to manage the strategy.  Traditional roles take the form of Chief Information Officers (CIOs), but new roles are increasingly coming forward such as Chief Data Officers (CDOs) and groups such as Data Integrity Committees.

How does dataBelt® enable the data strategy?

DataBelt® enables the Aim 5-layer data strategy model and provides tools and controls to execute and assure all the model components above, orchestrated within a customisable data strategy template that can be shared or created as a hard-copy output.  This data-led approach means that dataBelt® not only offers a platform for managing all aspects of data governance but allows an organisation’s data strategy to be easily maintained.
